Couples Therapy
Couples come for counseling when they are unable to resolve problems that may have started early on in the relationship or developed slowly over time. Sometime partners come seeking help as a result of a crisis that occured within the relationship or because of the stress of life. Whatever the reason, the couple is at an empasse to resolve their conflict and seek the help of a trained proffessional to help sort out the complexities of their issues.
Couples therapy helps the couple to identify and sort through relational patterns that each partner is maintaining that contributes to the conflicts. These patterns of behaving are often not conscious to the individual and may have developed from their own family of origin. Therapy seeks to help the couple understand the complex factors that contribute to their relationship with a view of developing understanding and respect for what each bring to the partnership. The goal of couples therapy is to help the couple learn more effective tools to foster greater communication and to respect the unique aspects of each partner. This leads to greater cooperation between the couple and fosters greater intimacy.
