Dr. Carol Hekman

​














Dr. Hekman has practiced psychotherapy for over 30 years. She received her BA in Psychology from UCLA and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology. Her first full-time internship was at the VA Hospital in Long Beach, CA, with an emphasis on medical neuropsychology.  She completed a second full-time internship at the USC Medical Center, focusing on psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  Dr. Hekman received a doctorate (Psy.D.) in psychoanalysis from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute, now the New Center for Psychoanalysis, where she is a core faculty member and a training and supervising analyst.

Dr. Hekman is certified by the American Psychoanalytic Association as a Training and Supervising analyst and is a Fellow of the American Board of Psychoanalysis.

My Practice
My treatment approach is patient-centered, which means I focus on the individual's emotional experience.   My psychotherapy practice consists of individual men, women, and older adolescents.  I also offer couples therapy to individuals in various partner relationships. My training as a psychoanalyst allows me to provide people with an opportunity to work more intensely in formal psychoanalysis.  I strive to appreciate each individual and build collaborative, respectful, and interactive relationships with my patients.  In an environment of trust and confidentiality, I work to help individuals discover and change aspects of themselves that interfere with their ability to find satisfaction in love and work.
